9 Shots of my lighthouse

Eye Level / Balance/Repetition

This eye level shot represents the design principle of balance.  It demonstrates formal balance because the image of the lighthouse is about the same on both sides.  The image has the lighthouse directly in the middle of rain and water on both sides of the lighthouse.  In addition, the rain and lighthouse create repeated vertical lines in this image.

Establishing Shot / Balance/Rhythm

This shot shows the design principal of balance and rhythm.  It demonstrates formal balance because the image of the lighthouse and landscape are about the same on both sides.  The lighthouse is centered, and the landscape has some water and land on both sides of the lighthouse.  In addition, the raindrops create a sense of rhythm, because your eyes bounce from drop to drop.

Medium Shot / Balance

This shot shows the design principle of balance.  It demonstrates informal balance because the landscape is not the same on both sides.  On one side of the lighthouse there is water, and on one side of the lighthouse, there is land.

Close Up Shot / Balance 

This shot shows the design principle of balance.  It demonstrates informal balance because the lighthouse is not centered.  Therefore because the main focus of the scene is off center it creates an imbalance of power.

Over the Shoulder Shot / Balance/Repetition 

This shot shows the design principle of repetition and balance.  It shows the repetition of mostly curved lines, but some diagonal lines.  The lighthouse top, walkway, and base all create curved lines.  In addition, the rain and the lighthouse create diagonal lines.  Finally, this shot shows informal balance, because the lighthouse is in one-half of the shot and the landscape is in the other.  This gives the shot a huge sense of imbalance and instability.

Point of View Shot / Repetition/Balance

This shot shows repetition and balance.  The shot uses repetition of diagonal lines from the lighthouse, landscape and the rain.  In addition, the shot shows informal balance, because the lighthouse is slightly off center, and the landscape is not the same on both sides.  This creates an imbalance of power in the shot.

Bird's Eye View / Rhythm/Repetition

This shot demonstrates both rhythm and repetition.  The rain and lighthouse both create diagonal lines in this shot, and is an example of repetition.  Also, rhythm is created by the rain in the shot, because your eyes bounce from one drop to the next since they are like objects.

Worm's Eye / Repetition

This shot demonstrates the design principle of repetition.  The lighthouse's base creates vertical lines along with the supports that connect to the top.  These repeated lines will attract your eyes, and you will analyze a shot based on where they are.

Extreme Close Up / Repetition./Balance

This shot demonstrates the design principles of both repetition and balance.  First, it shows the principle of repetition through the repeated use of horizontal lines.  For example,  the light creates a horizontal line, and so does the light house top, deck, and base.  Finally this shot shows informal balance since the lighthouse is off center which shows an imbalance of power.
